New York Fashion Week has only just begun, but it’s already claimed its first victim: Gigi Hadid. The 22-year-old model, who has walked for Jeremy Scott and Bottega Veneta so far, has come under fire for her fluctuating size, which has quickly been linked to drug use by sharp-tongued observers on social media.
Hadid has slammed the body-shamers in a series of tweets today, opening up about the autoimmune disease she suffers from and denying illegal drug use rumours.
Hadid first went public with her Hashimoto’s diagnosis in 2016, when she spoke on a panel for Reebok’s #PerfectNever campaign.
Hashimoto’s disease affects the thyroid gland, which controls the body’s metabolism. Symptoms can include weight fluctuations, sluggishness, depression, muscle weakness and joint pain.
