A Trainer Shared 3 Selfies to Show How His Body Changes During the Day

We don’t think we’re shattering any illusions here, but Instagram selfies aren’t always true to life. No shit, we here you say, but even though we all – we hope – know that, it can still be difficult to separate fact from fiction and we almost never get to see what was happening an hour before and an hour after a ‘perfect’ IG selfie is taken.

Enter MH Elite trainer and one half of the Lean Machines, Leon Bustin who, in a recent Instagram post, shared three selfies that show how, even with all the training he does – and trust us it’s a lot – his body shape still fluctuates throughout the day.

First thing in the morning, or “pre food” as Bustin calls it, he looks lean, but like everyone after a big lunch his six-pack disappears and his definition does one. Bustin also shared a post-workout selfie, which was taken on the same day and with him standing in the exact same way, and low and behold, his six-pack has returned. Who would have thought it?

Bustin’s point is that our bodies are volatile, which can be demoralizing if you’re training solely for aesthetics.

“Our bodies change throughout the day and that’s totally normal,” wrote Bustin. “You could have the best workout you’ve ever had then look in the mirror before you go to bed and all is totally forgotten because you don’t look the same as you did post workout, you also don’t feel the same either ‘hyped and full of adrenaline’ which we forget often as well.

“Try not to judge yourself on such a small singular, moment-by-moment time scale. Get your head down, do the work you need to do and judge yourself on your commitment to your process.

“Aesthetics come and go and can be a great motivational tool and feedback that our process is working. But try to pride yourself on your commitment and consistency.

Now you have this information, you have two options: you can either choose to take your IG selfies in the morning or after a workout or you can do as Bustin advises and prioritize commitment and consistency over aesthetics. Choose wisely.
