7 Health And Fitness Secrets From Meghan Markle

Meghan Markle is probably best known for her role as Rachel Zane on the USA legal drama Suits.

On screen Markle battles egos and red tape to inch closer to her dreams. Off screen, she does the same, making the most of every hour, minute and day she’s on the planet to realise her healthy-self.

“Whether we care to admit it or not, we all have a finite amount of time to honour the days we have on earth and really push to achieve our potential and accomplish things we feel truly proud of,” said Markle recently at Reebok’s #HonourYourDays event.

We caught up with Markle to find out how the actress and activist keeps healthy in body and mind each and every day.

ON DAILY MOTIVATION

My health, my state of mind, the feeling you have after a workout; all of this things drive me to step onto my mat or go to the gym. Sometimes the idea of working out sounds absolutely dreadful, but I always remind myself of how good it will feel afterward. Euphoric, almost!

ON WORKOUTS

My mum was a yoga instructor so that practice is in my blood. I love an intense vinyasa class – and even better if it’s blasting hip-hop and done in a dark room with candlelight. The best!

ON MEDITATION

Running has always been my form of moving meditation, which I relish because it allows me to get out of my head. I also work closely with a personal trainer named Craig McNamee when I am filming Suits in Toronto.

ON TRAINING BUDDIES

I’m eager to come to the UK to do a workout with Russell [Bateman], the founder of SBC. My friend Millie Macintosh raves about his workouts, so I’ll call her up to do a class together next time I’m back in London.

WHAT I SEE WHEN I LOOK IN THE MIRROR

Freckles. And I love them.

ON INVESTING IN MYSELF

I give myself the luxury of downtime. We are all so incredibly busy and juggling so many things but I always take an hour to just decompress, watch mindless TV, snuggle with my dogs and enjoy a glass of wine. That’s all part of the investment. It’s a balance.

WHAT I WON’T NEGOTIATE ON…

Breathing. Slowly and mindfully.
