It recently came to my attention — and I don't know how I didn't realize this sooner — that I am the exact same age as Cher Horowitz. Like, down to the month. Clueless hit theaters in July 1995; I had just turned 16 that April. In one of about a bazillion iconic exchanges of dialogue in the film, Cher asks Tai how old she is; when Tai responds that she'll be 16 in May, Cher reveals that she's older (and presumably wiser) because her birthday is in April.
Like so many teenage girls who experienced Clueless from the perspective of the characters' generational peer (shout-out to my fellow xennials), I adored the movie and still do. And whenever anything that harkens back to it pops up in pop culture, I can't help but smile and, occasionally, pull out my wallet for a piece of that nostalgia.
But when I saw that HipDot is launching a naturally adorable Clueless makeup collection, I hesitated. I may be the same age as Cher Horowitz, but that doesn't mean I'm still 16 (thank goodness). When I say I'm the same age as Cher Horowitz, I mean that, somewhere out there in the fictional Clueless universe, Cher Horowitz is 42 — like me. Perhaps this profoundly ‘90s-teeny-bopper makeup collection isn’t really for someone my age.

HipDot has combined clever, Clueless-inspired packaging design with fun, truly wearable makeup that will make anyone fall totally butt crazy in love. There's the Total Bettys Tinted Lip Oil Set ($24), which features three sheer shades topped off with yellow plaid caps and named, of course, for our three heroines: Cher (a pinkish red), Dionne (a subtle mauve), and Tai (a warm nude).

The Totally Clueless Blush Palette ($26) is made to look like a pink flip phone and has four versatile colors inside: a bubblegum pink and deep cinnamon brown in a satiny finish, and two shimmery options in tawny gold and peach.

The 411 Palette ($32) is the jewel of the collection, and not just because it's covered in pink faux fur. Inside are 12 stunning shades of corals, coppers, mauves, blues, and purples. And the names are pretty much perfect: Highly Selective, Botticelli, Classic, Full-On Monet, The Valley, Homies, Phat, Totally Paused, Fashion Victim, Pretty Groovy, Doll Face, and Whatever! (HipDot's exclamation point, not mine — though I am undeniably enthusiastic about it.)

The palette is where I started when given the chance to try the collection before its launch. For the most part, Cher and the girls wear relatively neutral and fresh-faced makeup looks throughout Clueless, except for when she gets all dolled for Christian and wears a dramatic pink shadow look — that's where I took my inspiration.
I started by packing Highly Selective, a satiny peach, on my mobile lid, followed by Phat, a rosy, borderline-plum mauve blended into my crease. To add a little dimension, I applied Classic, a sparkling coral, to the middle of my lids; The Valley, a shimmering copper, along my lower lash line; and Botticelli, a glowing almost-pink cream, to my brow bone.
The colors and finish are a bit bolder than I normally wear, but I was thrilled to find that they're very buildable and blendable, letting me feel like I wasn't overdoing it or going outside my comfort zone.
A little more intense upon application are the blushes. I went with the bright pink shade and instantly discovered that a little goes a long way. Luckily, it, too, is super blendable, and it looked even better with a little bit of the shimmery, peachy shade applied to my cheekbones like a highlighter.
I finished my inaugural Clueless collection look with the Cher shade of the Total Bettys Tinted Lip Oil. Although it looks to be the boldest of the three, its sheerness allows for a balance between subtlety and major shine.
What I love most about this collection (aside from all the feel-good chemicals it releases in my brain just by looking at it and feeling nostalgic) is that you can absolutely create a '90s-inspired, super-colorful makeup look with it — but you can also keep it simple or low-key.
