Former Aussie swimmer Stephanie Rice has shared before and after pictures of her impressive health and fitness transformation, revealing the crucial change behind it.
The triple Olympic gold winner says that it had taken “a lot of courage” to post the side-by-side images on Instagram, but she inevitably decided to share her experience to help “lift others out of mentally tough times”.
“This picture, to me, not only highlights the changes in my body, but the massive transformation to my mindset,” the 29-year-old wrote.
She says that in the first image, she was exercising daily, eating healthy vegan foods and felt like she was doing everything right. But her body wasn’t responding.
“I was continually beating myself up for not being good enough, comparing myself to everyone else and my swimming days of being super fit and believing that I wouldn’t be happy until I lost weight. I remember leaving the gym one morning feeling so frustrated that I was putting in all this effort, doing everything right and not seeing results…what was wrong with me? Why wasn’t I noticing the transformations that other people were?”
Steph says that in the second picture her body has obviously changed, but what you can’t see is how her mindset has too. The entrepreneur – who has just launched her “Magical Mentoring Program” – credits mental tools with transforming her body and mind.
“What I know FOR SURE is that my body was never going to respond to all the external effort I was putting in UNTIL I changed the way I thought about myself. No change you make on the outside (like losing weight) will last unless you change your mindset.”
She stopped putting rules and regulations around her eating and exercise habits, and focused more on what her body was feeling each day.
“Funny thing is, as soon as I allowed myself the mental freedom to not HAVE to workout, I became far more motivated to do so and when I stopped depriving myself of sweets and dessert, I found I lost almost all of my cravings for them. This feeling of inner peace is what transformed my body.”
