The countdown is on until Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding on May 19 and naturally we’re obsessed with every single little detail about the big day.
We’re also obsessed with cake, so the latest announcement from Kensington Palace about the couple’s official wedding cake baker is the ultimate combination of information.
The royal representative shared the delicious news on Twitter, revealing that the pair have chosen pastry chef Claire Ptak, owner of the London-based bakery Violet Cakes, to be in charge of arguably the most important element of the entire day.
They even dished on the flavour of the cake.
“Prince Harry and Ms. Markle have asked Claire to create a lemon elderflower cake that will incorporate the bright flavours of spring. It will be covered with buttercream and decorated with fresh flowers.”
“Claire Ptak, who was raised in California, focuses on using seasonal and organic ingredients in her cakes. Ms. Markle previously interviewed Chef Ptak for her former lifestyle website The Tig.”
Yep, the actor is a long time fan of Claire sweet treats writing back in 2015: “Claire has hit the nail on the head with her London bakery serving up delightful treats that have garnered a cult following (in that ever so civilised British way) in the UK and beyond.”
The wedding cake will also have a healthy twist, featuring organic, sustainable and seasonal ingredients.
“I can’t tell you how delighted I am to be chosen to make Prince Harry and Ms. Markle’s wedding cake,” Claire said. “Knowing that they really share the same values as I do about food provenance, sustainability, seasonality and most importantly flavour, makes this the most exciting event to be a part of.”
Oh and Nigella Lawson is totally on board.
