There’s no such a thing as a manual on how to live longer. However, there are certain lifestyle choices that can contribute to longevity. From healthy diet to exercise, taking care of your body is one way to cut your risk of serious health problems, including heart disease and blood pressure.
The life expectancy in the UK has slightly declined over the past few years, according to the Office for National Statistics.
The main disease on everyone’s lips has been Covid ever since the virus emerged.
But there are still other health condition that can be life-threatening, like heart disease.
Classified as the leading cause of death by the World Health Organization, this condition can be caused by untreated high blood pressure.
The one drink that can cut the risk of developing these two is black tea.
According to a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, black tea makes a good choice for lowering high blood pressure.
The study reports that regular consumption of this hot drink can lower hypertension “immediately”.
The participants in the study drank three cups of this black beverage daily and were able to continue seeing the results for six months based on their levels of blood pressure and heart rate.
Another study, published in the journal PLOS One, further confirms this claim but warns this blood pressure reduction is “small”.
“Although the effect is small, such effects could be important for cardiovascular health at population level,” the study adds.
When it comes to the risk of heart disease and black tea, The American Journal of Medicine offers the answer.
Their research found that regular intake of this tea may help reduce various risk factors for heart disease, such as high cholesterol, elevated triglyceride levels and obesity.
Another study in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition saw those who drank three cups of black tea per day have an 11-percent lower risk of developing heart disease.
Black tea is rich in antioxidants called flavonoids.
Flavonoids have beneficial anti-inflammatory properties and they protect your cells from oxidative damage.
These goodies have been also linked to better heart health, according to the National Library of Medicine.
The number of cups throughout the studies differed but the majority looked at higher amounts of around three to five a day.
Evidence suggests that drinking black tea regularly may lower the risk of developing heart disease.
And there’s also compelling research showing it could lower blood pressure as well.
However, some research explains that this reduction is small and other interventions might be needed.
