Fitness YouTuber Aseel Soueid regularly takes on challenges that involve following the extreme workouts of super-fit celebrities and athletes like LeBron James. In his latest video, Soueid sets the bar high and spends the day training like Mike Tyson, the heavyweight boxing champion who came out of retirement this year and has been busy getting into the best shape of his life.
The challenge starts out with a 5-mile run before breakfast. “I don’t even remember the last time I ran 5 miles,” says Soueid, before eating a large pre-workout meal and then heading to the gym where the workout truly begins.
First up are 10 x 2-minute rounds of sparring, with 30 seconds of rest in between. “I have never sparred before,” he says. “I’ve literally never sparred with a bag for exercise, so this is going to be hard.” He starts laying into the bag, and it isn’t long before he’s drenched in sweat and gasping for breath. “This is so much harder than it looks,” he says. “So much respect going out to boxers… I’m dead. That was hard.”
Throughout the day Soueid is also completing Tyson’s full-body calisthenics routine, which amounts to 1,000 reps of bodyweight exercises, broken down into 10 sets of 25 pushups, dips, situps, and weighted shrugs. “It’s so much harder than you would think it could be, especially for someone who weight trains all the time and can bench over 275 pounds,” he says after finishing his pushups. “It’s that sparring, it kills your shoulders.”
After the pushups come 6 more rounds of drills on the punchbag; this time each round lasts 30 seconds and is interspersed with 30 seconds of jump rope. Then it’s time for shadowboxing, focusing on technique. “I have zero technique,” Soueid admits.
Then finally, the workout comes to an end with 20 minutes of cardio on the stationary bike. “You know you’re an absolute savage when you’re cooling down on an exercise bike,” he says. “This whole day has been such a long day… Definitely a bit of a struggle.”
