Michael Phelps Did an Ab Workout With His Son and We Love It

As an Olympian, world record holder, and what some might say the greatest swimmer of all time, Michael Phelps is no stranger to intense workouts. According to The Baltimore Sun, Phelps used to swim about 80,000 meters every week before retiring, and Livestrong reported that the swimmer would complete a 30 minute stretching routine and a 45 minutes warm-up swim before race days.

Phelps is taking things much easier these days, but he’s as dedicated as ever to staying in shape. He still swims, he’s taken up cycling, and he also works out at home. In an Instagram video posted earlier this week, Phelps showed part of his routine, accompanied by his older son, Boomer.

Phelps and Boomer worked out their abs, but Phelps seemed a little more into it than 2-year-old Boomer.

Phelps and wife Nicole are parents to Boomer and 8-month old Beckett, and in 2017 Phelps opened up to Health about how fatherhood has changed his life.

“The biggest thing [fatherhood] has really taught me is patience. I’m pretty patient, but it’s like, he’s a small human. He’s a child that can’t tell us what he wants. So when he’s crying because of X, Y, or Z, be patient and figure it out,” he said.

He also shared that Boomer is already into sports. “I’ll watch him hit a golf ball, or swing a little foam baseball bat, or throw a football. It’s just fun. It’s cool to watch. Every day is something different.”
