If there’s one thing that most CrossFit athletes can agree on after a tough workout, it’s that burpees are the worst. Rare is it to find anyone who enjoys doing the notoriously grueling exercise, which combines a pushup, a squat, and a jump all into a single fluid and challenging movement.
Nick Anapolsky just might be the exception to that rule. On Saturday, the six-time CrossFit Games athlete set a new chest-to-ground burpee world record by completing a staggering 879 reps in one hour at Polsky’s Strength & PSC, a CrossFit box in Kitchener, Ontario, CA that Polsky owns. If you’re trying to do the math, that’s just under 15 burpees per minute for the entire hour.
(And while it should go without saying that we do not recommend doing nothing but burpees for a full hour, here’s a guide to executing the move safely and with proper form.)
“What a crazy experience,” Anapolsky, 32, wrote in an Instagram post after his successful attempt. “Thanks to everyone who sent me messages for this silly challenge. The hour was full of ups and down (literally) but I got through it knowing I had my PSC community behind me and everyone else who was cheering me on.”

Polsky’s total smashed the previous world record of 870 chest-to-ground burpee reps in one hour, set by Australia’s Macauley Jones in 2019. In the video clip accompanying his Instagram post, Polsky collapses on the floor afterwards as his fellow CrossFitters cheer and applaud.
“Thank you so much, guys. Appreciate it,” he says, visibly exhausted, before adding something even more CrossFitters can probably agree on after a hard workout: “Let’s eat some pizza.”
