A morbidly obese mum is worried her unhealthy habits are going to send her to an early grave.
Alice Young, who tips the scales at 35st, thinks she won’t be around to see her kids grow old.
In an episode of 5Star documentary, Eating Ourselves to Death, the Nottinghamshire-based woman said she feels “imprisoned by food”.
But for the sake of her family, she’s vowed to lose weight.
Alice has battled with her weight since she was a child.
As she was bullied by her classmates, she was pushed to food for comfort.
She said: “When I was bullied at school it got quite bad to the point they used to flick matches at me.
“They used to spit at me, sing songs at me.
“I sought out a friend in food.
“I used to spend my pocket money on cream cakes, chocolate and sweets.
“I remember hiding food… to the point not even my parents knew the extent of my eating.”
Even though Alice worried she’d never find a partner to settle down with, she was swept off her feet by Mark Frankish, 42.
The pair’s relationship blossomed after they met at a bar and they decided to start a family.
While Alice was delighted when she fell pregnant, she worried that her weight would cause complications.
She admitted: “I feel pregnant when I was 28 and I weighed 28st…
“I was worried that something would go wrong.
“I could die from high blood pressure or diabetes.”
Thankfully, Alice’s pregnancy went off without a hitch.
She gave birth to her twin kids Dylan and Grace, now six, and vowed to turn her life around.
But despite her promise to follow a healthier lifestyle, the mum soon slipped back into bad habits.
She remembered: “When the children were born, I thought this is it, this is life-changing to me…
“But old habits die hard and I ended up back in the routine.
“It’s almost like a drug to me, it’s something I can’t seem to get control of.”
The mum guzzles 4,000 calories a day – many of which are consumed in secret or at night.
She now tips the scales at 35st and has begun battling health problems.
Alice has been diagnosed with type-2 diabetes and worries she is eating herself to death.
She said: “I don’t think anyone should have to live like this.
“I feel imprisoned by food.
“I feel like it’s got a control over me that I can’t seem to get out of.
“My body isn’t able to do things it should do at this age.
“I should be running about with my kids, enjoying life, but it’s an impossibility.
“If I don’t make positive changes in my life and lose weight, I probably won’t see them growing up and having kids.”
After struggling to get control of her weight, Alice decided to consult a doctor for advice.
The medical expert delivered the news that the mum’s BMI came back as 65.8.
This is classified in the “super morbidly obese” range.
Following the worrying diagnosis, Alice’s mindset has changed.
She said: “I was looking for that final shock and I think I’ve got it.”
Them mum is now taking steps to lose weight and is leaning on her family for support.
