The little silver foil tube of the Depixym Cosmetic Emulsion may look like acrylic paint, but you don't have to be Georgia O'Keefe to master them. In fact, this Best of Beauty Award-winning formula has become a staple in my makeup routine for nearly two years now for its overall versatility. (I can't go anywhere without it — it's even joined me on trips to Japan, Honduras, South Korea, and the Netherlands.) You can simply fingerpaint the pigments all over your lids for a stunning sheer, watercolor-like effect in five seconds flat or create mini masterpieces around your eyes with several of its 20 hues, a thin liner brush, and a lot of patience as I often do.
Let's say you go the fingerpainting route. First, coat your ring finger — your weakest, gentlest one for dealing with the delicate skin around your eyes — into a blob of your desired Cosmetic Emulsion, recommends Tokyo-based makeup artist Yuui Vision. Then, dab the color onto the part of your lid where you want it to be most prominent before blending the pigment out with your middle finger.

Want to amp up the intensity of your shadow? All you have to do is smudge on another layer of the Cosmetic Emulsion. The creamy consistency blends with little effort, so you can build up the pigments for peak opacity without flaking. I often add yellows, pinks, and blues onto different parts of my lids for a rainbow sherbet vibe, and the hues don't muddy together as I buff them out with my fingertips.
If you'd rather keep your fingers paint-free, I love smoothing the Cosmetic Emulsion onto my lids with a flat eyeshadow brush, like the Best of Beauty-winning Merle Norman Makeup Artistry Eyes #2. The color payoff is truly stunning with this application technique. The white aka #0004, in particular, is the most streak-free white cream shadow on the market if you ask me.

Although the Depixym Cosmetic Emulsion won in the Best Cream Eye Shadow category, it excels in others, like cream blush and eyeliner. Obviously, you can sub in any of the colors for your typical black liner for technicolor wings. Or if I happen to be working with a pink, red, or orange Cosmetic Emulsion, I'll take whatever excess pigment I have left on my finger (or brush) and buff it onto my cheeks for a coordinating blush. The pigment surprisingly melts into skin without amplifying its texture — probably because it has a decadently thick, buttercream-like consistency.
Shade #0982 is excellent for asymmetrical graphic liner
The texture of Depixym's formula also lends itself well to mixing two or more Cosmetic Emulsion shades together. I often whip up my own mint, lavender, coral, sky blue, and petal pink with a couple of drops of the primary colors and white. In those moments, I must admit I do feel like O'Keefe — also when I paint fun, little designs on my face, like smiley faces or fried eggs.

No matter what you decide to do with the colorful Cosmetic Emulsions, you'll notice your eye makeup won't smudge, run, flake, or fade until you want it to. It truly will not budge for anything…. but oil-based makeup remover, like the Best of Beauty-winning Mario Badescu Skin Care Cleansing Oil.
