It’s been a zillion degrees in New York lately, and the sweltering subway platforms are something I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. The silver lining: When you use a new eyeliner on the A train in a heat wave, you learn what it’s really made of — and Eyeko’s slim liquid pen is made of strong, smudge-proof stuff. On another day our executive beauty director skipped styling products to see how well Nexxus Keraphix shampoo and conditioner would stand up — all on their own — to the wilting heat. She made it through her commute and three meetings without any frizz. Hopefully, you’ll be enjoying these products from the August Beauty Box on summer days that are more balmy than sweltering — but if not, know that we’ve got you covered.
Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet
I wanted to do a split-face test with this lightweight moisturizer so
I could see how well it worked next to another formula, but…yeah,
that didn’t happen. I loved it so much right off the bat that I put it
all over. It has a subtle cooling effect that’s heaven on hot days,
and it doesn’t feel heavy or greasy. I used it after a sleepless night,
and it gave my skin a rosy glow that made me look less like a zombie,
before I’d even reached for concealer. And when my cheeks
were feeling a little dry, the hydrating glycerin and sunflower-seed
oil in this light and airy lotion got them back in line.

Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner
This felt-tip liquid liner goes on super black and just a little glossy.
“Because it’s so saturated and not too shiny, it reminds me of an art
marker. And the point is stiff enough that I can use it to draw precise
lines,” says Jesa Calaor, an editorial assistant at Allure, who’s
also a winged-liner expert. “The ink is the ideal consistency: not
too wet, so it doesn’t bleed or leave streaks, and not too dry, so it
doesn’t drag or skip. And it really stays put — it actually lasts all day
on the outer corners of my eyes, where my skin’s natural oils usually
break down my eye makeup.” But you don’t need to be a
Calaor-level wing master to love this pen — I use it to trace the roots of my upper lashes with the finest (and most indelible) line.

Laritzy Cosmetics Light Stix in Halo
There are about a billion highlighters to choose from, and at least
three more have launched since you opened this box. You can find
prismatic blue shades, and ones with glitter chunks so ginormous you
could see them from the International Space Station. But sometimes
you just want a classic champagne highlighter to perk up your skin —
one you can put on in 10 seconds, no contouring or strobing required.
Enter this shimmering stick from Laritzy. You may not have heard of
the brand, but now you’ll never forget the name —
this is about as pretty as highlighter gets. “It’s got a nice subtle sheen without being
shiny,” says Sable Yong, Allure’s digital beauty editor. “The stick swipes
on easily without skipping or tugging, and the creamy formula is easy
to blend.” Sweep it across your cheekbones, the bridge of your nose,
and your chin, then give it a few taps to soften the edges.

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask
This overnight lip treatment smells good enough to eat — it’s sweet,
like berries — and gives lips a shimmering pink tint that’s a shame to
waste on sleeping. “I wore it on a flight from New York to Napa, and
it stayed on my lips for almost the entire six hours,” says Sarah
Kinonen, a digital editor at Allure. “It’s not as heavy as a balm, but
it’s not as sticky as a gloss — it’s like a happy medium, and it’s super
hydrating.” Until I book my own wine-country trip (here’s hoping!),
I’m keeping one on my nightstand, because the shea butter formula
makes my lips so much softer overnight, and another at my
desk, since I also love the soft shine and pretty tint for daytime.

Nexxus Keraphix Damage Healing Shampoo
This shampoo was designed to help
rehab damaged hair with tried-and-true
keratin protein, which strengthens
strands so they’re less likely to
snap. “It’s gentle — it doesn’t suds up
too much — and it made my hair feel
noticeably softer,” says Jenny Bailly,
executive beauty director at Allure.
“In the shower, the floral scent was a
little strong for my taste, but it didn’t
linger, so I was fine with it.”
