PARIS — Groupe Bogart keeps widening its distribution reach in Germany, most recently with an agreement inked to acquire eight fragrance boutiques owned by the Parfümerie Gottmann chain.
Groupe Bogart, which creates, manufactures and sells luxury fragrances and cosmetics, did not give a purchase price but in a statement characterized it as “modest."
The company said “the group is energetically pursuing its acquisition strategy focusing on the boutiques business.”
Groupe Bogart has been present in Germany since 2016, operating through the HC Parfumeries chain, which counts 87 boutiques.
The eight Parfümerie Gottmann doors, situated around Cologne, were opened in 1955.
“The new boutiques will give the group access to previously uncharted territory as well as boosting profit margins,” said Groupe Bogart, adding the new stores will increase HC Parfumeries’ sales by about 10 percent.
The deal for the stores is due to close this month, and the business should be consolidated in Groupe Bogart starting in March.
That will bring the company’s count of owned perfume-sellers in Germany to 95.
Last February, Groupe Bogart said it had — to help boost the expansion of its Carven fragrance business, especially — signed a distribution contract with Beauty Alliance GmbH, the largest grouping of independent perfumeries in Germany. At the time the alliance boasted 30 percent of the market share there.
In Germany, Beauty Alliance also carries Groupe Bogart’s beauty brands Méthode Jeanne Piaubert and Stendhal.
Once the deal for the Parfümerie Gottmann is finalized, Groupe Bogart will own 390 stores in Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, France and Israel.
Groupe Bogart runs its own beauty stores, called April. Its other fragrance brands include Jacques Bogart, Chevignon and Ted Lapidus. It has in its portfolio the Ted Labipidus fashion label, too.
