At 52, Cindy Crawford still has one of the most flawless faces in the world.
The former supermodel shared a post-workout selfie from the gym on Wednesday, showing off her perfectly toned body as well her fresh, make-up and flawless-looking face. She also revealed the several decade-long secret to her fantastic figure — and if you were around in the 90s it is sure to bring up some serious nostalgia.
“Early bird hits the gym,” Crawford captioned her Instagram image of herself wearing a white workout top and bright leggings.
While the internet can often be a place filled with nasty trolls, Crawford’s followers had nothing but love for her, praising her natural beauty and longevity. One fan even attributed her own workout ethos to the supermodel, telling her that she used to work out to her 1992 Shape Your Body workout videos on VHS.
“Loved them and they were the catalyst to my love of working out!” she wrote. And guess what? Crawford responded. “Those workouts are still the basis of how I workout today!” she revealed.
In case you weren’t aware, Crawford was once a workout video queen goddess a la Jane Fonda. Here’s the skinny: In 1992, during her reign as one of the world’s most in-demand and highest-paid supermodels, she released a few epic videos (back then they were on VHS) with her trainer at the time, Radu Teodorescu.
The video was one of the best-selling workout videos of the decade, and millions of people around the world were mesmerized by a 20-something Crawford executing the perfect lunge (the highly-hyped Seal song-of-the-moment “Crazy” playing softly in the background), lifting light weights on the beach in her swimsuit and stretching atop office buildings.
Her moves were nothing fancy nor were they complicated, just lots of repetitions of basic and core fitness exercises like squats, lunges, sit-ups, crunches and weights broken down into sets of three. If you successfully completed the video, it is likely you were dripping in sweat and unable to walk for days.
In a 2011 interview, she revealed that Radu, as he was more commonly referred to in the celebrity trainer world of the 90s, was responsible for getting her “passionate about fitness.” She also confessed that decades later she was still doing a modified version of the workout.
In 2017 she told NY Mag’s The Cut that she starts the current version of her 30-year-old workout with 20 minutes of cardio then weights. “Sometimes the cardio is jumping on a trampoline, using a treadmill or elliptical, or running,” she explained. Then she does 30 minutes to an hour of “old school” lunges, weights, squats and bicep curls.
She also revealed that her daughter Kaia Gerber, currently one of the world’s most in-demand supermodels, is also a fan of her workout.
Crawford is ageless and timeless — just like her cardio-plus-strength training workout. Her effective regiment is also a great reminder that you don’t need a fancy trainer, expensive gym membership or several free hours a day to stay in shape.
