How was your weekend running?

I’m pretty sure I got a PB yesterday. It’s yet to be officially validated but I’m fairly sure that I managed more cake than ever before in one sitting. Salted butter magic caramel cake, since you didn’t ask (cake report: delicious but more like a giant pudding than an actual cake).

I’ve done two whole runs since Berlin marathon last Sunday – a very gentle 5k trot on Saturday morning and an equally gentle trot around the new 10 mile race in Kingston yesterday. For the first running of a race, it was extremely well organised and the weather was glorious – cold to start but with that lovely warm autumnal sunshine that made the river stretch of the route a particular joy. Going past Hampton Court glowing in that light was just lovely.

Obviously the course had to make up the set distance, and the first couple of miles were less inspiring, through Kingston town centre and around it, and around it again, to the point I started to wonder if we needed to reach escape velocity before we could break free. But the rest was lovely. Flat as a pancake and quiet as you’d expect 8.30am on a Sunday morning to be.

So I’m not really sure I earned the amount of cake I subsequently ate. But I allowed myself one week of indulgence post-marathon, culminating in my birthday yesterday (leave your presents below the line, yeah?). I’ll have a salad today.

So how was your weekend running, and did it bring joy and triumph and cake, or are you battling those injuries? As always, share your stories and questions below the line. Cake reviews optional, but encouraged.
