After a couple of easy weeks after Berlin marathon, I’m back in something approaching normal training. If normal includes wondering on every run “where on earth did I leave my fitness?” and “Hmm perhaps times to cut down the diet of 94% cake”.
I actually had a dreadful week, running-wise. Just didn’t have anything in my legs, still, though I felt like I should. A sort of hangover from sinusitis made my breathing sound like Darth Vader. I actually found myself thinking at one point on a particularly bad run, “Why a I doing this? I hate running”.
I don’t, of course. And this weekend I did a track session with the club and a nice 12 miler yesterday which served to bring back my mojo, at least a little. The long run was particularly good because it coincided with a race – this half marathon, I think. The cheery marshals along the towpath both north and south of the river kept clapping me, and saying “well done!” and offering me water. None deserved of course (and none taken, in the case of the water) but the general sense of cheeriness and support within the running comminnuty was infectious and it finally bought a spring back to my step.
So, how was your weekend running? And how do you get your mojo back when it abandons you? As always, share your woes, triumphs and tips below the line. Just don’t offer me any cake, I’m trying to be good now, ok?
