A new erectile dysfunction treatment is now available to buy over the counter, and it’s being hailed as a ‘breakthrough for sexual wellness’
Eroxon is the first topical impotence gel that can be bought without a prescription in the UK, offering an alternative to standard ED remedies in pill format, such as sildenafil (Viagra) and tadalafil (Cialis).
Traditional drugs aren’t suitable for all patients and can take up to an hour to kick in, whereas this innovation is more widely tolerated and gets to work in as little as 10 minutes.
In clinical trials of 250 men with erectile dysfunction, 63% noticed improvements after using Eroxon for a period of 12 weeks. Further tests confirmed these results, showing that effects were usually seen within 10 minutes after application.
Those with severe ED were even more likely to benefit, as 87% of this group reported an increase in their ability to achieve and maintain erections.
Although some side effects (including headaches, nausea, and skin irritation) were reported, the treatment was approved for sale – and packs of four single-use gels can purchased at Boots for £24.99 from today.
Eroxon works by rapidly cooling the penis to stimulate nerve endings before using a slower warming action to activate neurotransmitters. This promotes nitric oxide production in the body, which in turn relaxes the tissues in the penis to allow blood to flow through.
While there are currently creams and gels on the market claiming to help men in the bedroom, this is the first scientifically-proven option that’s available prescription-free.
One man who took part in the Eroxon trial, 62-year-old Charles Wilson from North London, said: ‘It’s a whole different experience. I apply it, we have a kiss and a cuddle and we’re ready to go.
‘I can also give it to my wife to apply– it’s much more natural and spontaneous. It feels slightly cooling, it’s not unpleasant at all.’
Dr Hilary Jones, TV GP and an adviser to the Eroxon ED Information Panel (EEDIP), commented: ‘Eroxon offers a breakthrough for sexual wellness… and ensures sexual spontaneity remains intact thanks to its speed of action.
‘Previous ED treatments can take up to an hour to work, potentially destroying any intimacy. Plus, studies show that almost 50% of men actually gave up using them.’
Given an estimated half of all men between the ages of 40 and 70 will experience ED at some point, we reckon this product could be a game-changer.
Eroxon costs £24.99 for a pack of four single-use tubes and is available from Boots stores and online.
