Falling off the wagon is a term often used with dieting or adhering to a health regime and is strongly associated with failure. However once we accept a couple of things we can quickly redefine our perspective on “falling off the wagon”.
1. The first thing to consider is that we are all fallible and having the odd ‘non compliant’ meal or not hitting the gym for a day, week or month is far from being the end of our health journey. Even the most vigilant and disciplined veer off the track from time to time – and sometimes its fun too!
2. The other important point to consider is that health isn’t attained in a week, month or year –rather there is no set end-point, it’s all one continuum. It’s what you do the majority of the time that will determine your health and wellbeing.
Once you have redefined the notion of falling off the wagon and detached from the negative “failure” connotation, it will free you of guilt and remorse. Falling off the wagon for a day, week or even a month will have little affect on long term health IF the majority of the time you strive for good health.
We all look for a quick solution to weight loss, health and wellbeing but take a step back and see the bigger picture, the goal should be to walk this life with as much health and happiness as possible and for as long possible.
