It looks like Mike Tyson is stepping up his workouts as he prepares to reenter the ring. The world heavyweight champion has been posting regular updates on social media since announcing earlier this year that he was coming out of retirement to participate in a series of charity boxing matches, sharing clips of his training schedule and showing off his impressive speedwork.
In his latest Instagram post, the 53-year-old fighter (who hasn’t fought professionally since 2005) absolutely cuts loose on his trainer, saying in the caption that he is “training smarter every day.” Actor Jamie Foxx, who is currently packing on muscle to play Tyson in a long-awaited biopic, made his approval of the video clear when he simply commented: “💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾”
News of Tyson’s comeback has caused quite the stir in the world of boxing, with various promoters keen to book him for exhibition matches. There are rumors of a fight against Wanderlei Silva worth $20 million, and Tyson Fury recently revealed that he’s been contacted about potentially squaring up against Iron Mike in the near future.
The fight that everybody is waiting for, though, has been more than 20 years in the making: a rematch with Evander Holyfield, who Tyson famously bit during the now-notorious “Bite Fight” of 1997, which was itself a rematch after Holyfield knocked Tyson out in 1996 . Holyfield, who retired in 2012, has also recently started training for a charity comeback, and has hinted repeatedly that he might be getting ready to face off against his old rival.
