YouTuber Hunter Hobbs went semi-viral in 2018 when he posted a timelapse video showcasing his fitness progress over a 3-month time period, starting out with a beer gut and ending with ripped, visible abs. He then followed up the post with another video explaining a few things about his transformation.
“I really didn’t know about a good diet program, or weight loss, or calculating calories and macros,” he says, and so he sought out support and guidance from a number of resources online. These included a special 8-week program from Aaron Nimmo, a trainer whose results he had seen on Instagram.
The program was customized for him, with workouts and meals laid out in an app. Hunter is quick to add that he is “definitely not sponsored by him or anything like that,” but that he found it helpful. Hunter followed this with a cutting program from another Instagram trainer named Ross Dickerson, which he used in the final 4 weeks of his 3-month window.
As for the actual workouts, he explains that he went to the gym 5 or 6 times a week, focusing on weight training. “I started out heavy, and then as it progressed I went higher reps and lighter weights, just more fast paced,” he says. “I also did 20 to 30 minutes of cardio after every single workout which I think really helped.”
Hunter’s diet consisted of largely the same protein-heavy meals: he bulk-cooked chicken, sweet potato, salad, eggs, oatmeal, almonds, and protein shakes. He also cut out alcohol from his diet during the entire challenge.

Hunter admits that it might have been easier for him to drop body fat so quickly compared to other people, as he had previously been very active prior to putting on weight, but adds that “it was still the hardest thing I’ve ever done.”
