Ty Dolla Sign stays healthy. In his own words, the singer—a.k.a. “Ty Dolla $ign,” a.k.a. “Ty$,” “a.k.a. sweet baby Jesus, a.k.a. sex symbol …”—doesn’t “fuck with” unhealthy food.
The artist and record producer, who has written hit songs for Trey Songz, Snoop Dogg, and Wiz Khalifa, spent a morning showing off the home base to his healthy habits, including a refrigerator that is truly something to behold.
“My house cost $100 million,” he says (obviously?) kidding. “But this shit right here,” he continues, pointing to his refrigerator’s contents, “this is the best part of the house.”
The house’s best: leftover salmon, bags of apples, boxes of strawberries and blueberries, egg cartons, stacks of Simply Lemonade (“those are all chasers”), and rows and rows of Fiji water. It’s a fridge that looks almost too curated, were it not for the packages of Oreo left on the counter. Don’t worry about his health, though—those treats are for his daughter and his homies. “I don’t fuck with that shit,” says Ty.
The artist’s only unhealthy indulgence is the glowing pink and orange Gatorade lining the corner of the fridge. “My trainer actually tells me ‘don’t fuck with the Gatorade,'” he admits. “But I like it.”
“Anybody who knows Ty Dolla Sign knows what he does.”
Ty also doesn’t fuck with the horse radish. Or pork. Ty definitely doesn’t fuck with pork: “You won’t see pork in my fridge,” he says. “No pork on my fork.” Since the artist trying to trim off some belly fat, he says he’s on an all vegetables, protein, and berry diet. Ty fucks with berries.
After his fridge tour, Ty hops in his Porsche and drives to his personal trainer’s gym (a sentence that can only be uttered about a high-level celebritty.). Ty works out every day, unless he has a show. At the very least, he wakes up and does cardio. On a good day, the workouts are two hours long.
When Ty’s on the road, he’ll pack his treadmill and some free weights in his trailer. Packing a treadmill is essential, and he always tries to get a run in before the show. He says it helps him sweat less on stage. “I try to do shows without it, and I just feel like I’m more lazy,” he admits. While Ty runs, he says he listens to L.A. DJ Anthony Valadez on KCRW who plays songs Ty won’t hear on streaming radio, which the artist uses for inspiration for his own work.
Aside from cardio and stamina for live shows, Ty works out for obvious aesthetic reasons: “I just want to be lean and be the best sex symbol I can be,” he says. Gotta respect the honesty.
How does Ty$ come down after a show? Or his day’s biggest workout?
“Shit, you guys know what I do,” Ty says, grinning and hinting at something . “Anybody who knows Ty Dolla Sign knows what he does.”
