Watch a Bodybuilder Try ‘Shin Conditioning’ With UFC Star Wonderboy Thompson

Bodybuilder Houston Jones and professional MMA fighter Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson have been engaged in an extended competition on their YouTube channels over the last several months. Determined to prove that he is just as tough as the UFC star, Jones has challenged Thompson to kick him as hard as he can in the leg and punch him full-power in the stomach, not to mention take part in a series of viral fitness challenges lifted straight off of TikTok.

In another video, Jones subjects himself to brutal pain once more for reasons not entirely known, this time around by taking on Thompson’s shin conditioning routine.

They start off with a round of shin-kicks to a wooden post that’s been fitted with tires, designed to help toughen up the skin so that fighters are at less risk of breaking the skin during fights. Then they move onto a process which is supposed to “deaden the nerves” so that fighters won’t feel as much pain during leg-kicks. “When you’re going shin-on-shin, or someone’s blocking your kick, you don’t feel it in that shin,” Thompson explains.

This involves simply dragging a wooden rod down the shin bone; a surprisingly painful tactic which soon has Jones yelling out in agony and leaves some angry-looking red discoloration along his shins and bruising on his foot. As if that weren’t bad enough, then Thompson starts hitting Jones in the shin with the stick. And finally, determined to prove his toughness, Jones grabs the stick and starts beating his own shin with it.

It goes without saying that this is not a conditioning technique that we recommend trying in your own fitness regime.
