UFC Fighter Michael Chandler Turned His Hotel Room Into an MMA Gym

Being resourceful goes a long way when you’re trying to squeeze in a workout while on the road. While many people tend to make do with props like water jugs and travel-friendly accessories like jump rope, that wasn’t going to be enough for UFC fighter Michael Chandler. Over the weekend, Chandler shared a clip to his Instagram of an intense sparring session that took place inside his Houston hotel room—and it looks like he made a few small modifications.

In the clip, Chandler can be seen throwing down with retired Dutch kickboxer Henri Hooft. It appears the two have cleared most of the furniture out of the way, covering the floor with a wrestling mat and adding some interlocking foam mats around the perimeter of the room to create a makeshift UFC gym within the relatively cramped space.

“Hotel workout with @henrihooft and @gilbert_burns. Keep it simple and keep it devastating,” Chandler wrote in the post’s caption. “Things are heating up. See you in an octagon near you. See you at the top!”

Chandler is currently prepping to fight former interim UFC lightweight champion Justin Gaethje at UFC 268, scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 6 in New York City. It’s fair to say all that hotel room sparring as him feeling pretty confident, too: Over the weekend, Chandler predicted a third-round knockout of Gaethje.

“I do think I can knock him out,” Chandler told USA Today’s MMA Junkie. “He’s been knocked out in the past. He’s also weathered some crazy storms, so I think this fight is about patience, precision, poise, confidence and cardio, and I think I have all of those attributes.”
