For plastic Cutlery, plastic cotton swabs, and disposable cups made of Styrofoam is getting closer. The Federal government will launch this Wednesday the implementation of the EU Directive on the way – environmentalists and waste-disposal challenge but improvements still.

Environment Minister Svenja Schulze (SPD) said on German TV show ‘Good Morning Germany: “Many of the disposable products made of plastic are superfluous and not a sustainable use of resources.”

The subject cotton swab, plastic Cutlery and plates, straws, stirrers for coffee, balloon sticks and Styrofoam cups and containers for Take-away food.

In addition, the ban on products made of plastics, which by means of a reaction with oxygen Oxidation called is in tiny pieces and disintegrate.

The products accounted for about one-tenth of the waste volume on streets and in public litter bins and the local authorities, in individual cases even up to a fifth, said the Vice-President of the Association of municipal enterprises (VKU), Patrick Hasenkamp.

In the implementation of the EU Directive, the devil lying in the Detail: disposable plastic should not be simply replaced by disposable products made of other materials or disposable products are declared as “reusable”.

Also, the German environmental aid is not satisfied. Environment Minister Svenja Schulze (SPD) wanted to implement the minimum requirements of the EU, said waste-expert Thomas Fischer of the dpa.

“This is ambitionslos and the role of Germany as a driving force within the European Union is not righteous.”

An extension of the ban on all disposable drinks cups and food boxes made of plastic would be necessary, as well as a binding for reusable promotion and a comprehensible delineation of disposable and reusable products.
