Evangeline Lilly Is Still Fighting Chronic Pain from a Guy Pinning Her to a Leg Press Machine at 15

Evangeline Lilly has been sharing clips from the early stages of her “Wasp workout” on Instagram in preparation for the upcoming Marvel sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. After previously alluding to issues with chronic pain, in a new post the actress revealed the traumatic gym injury that led to her struggling with pain and weakness in her back for decades.

“When I was 15-years-old, I was the only girl who worked out at my school’s weight gym,” she wrote. “As you can imagine, that got me some attention…usually harmless. But, one day harm was done.”

“I was pressing 500lbs on the incline leg press…a LOT for a young lady…and a guy I knew, taunting me to press more, climbed on top of my weights, pinning me to the machine,” she continued. “He refused to get off unless I pressed him. I tried. With all my strength. I couldn’t move him, but he irrevocably moved something in my back. I couldn’t get out of bed the next morning, and thus began a lifetime of lower-back injury and weakness. I have tried physio, therapeutic massage, acupuncture and dedicated exercise for 27 years, but almost everything has felt like bandaids till now.”

Lilly then went on to speak about the work she has been doing with Eric Goodman, creator of the Foundation Method, and the story has a somewhat happy ending. In just three months of practicing Goodman’s techniques, which are designed to give the body a basis of strength on which to build, Lilly says she has “already started to reverse the damage done that day and the consequent damage that came from living almost three decades with an unresolved injury.”
