Actor Sam Claflin Just Showed Off His Ripped Abs in a Shirtless Instagram Shot

A great physique isn’t anything without some personality to back it up. In a recent Instagram photo, Sam Claflin—actor of Hunger Games, Me Before You and Peaky Binders fame—proudly showed off his abs all in the name of a well-timed joke.

The Instagram shot wasn’t your typical gym bro photo. Instead, it was full of well-played comedic timing. In the mirror selfie, Claflin posed with his face lathered up for a shave. Problem is, a sign in the mirror read, “Do not use the tap water. There is anti-freeze in the water lines! Use the hand sanitizer provided. Thank you.”

Claflin captioned the photo with a simple statement: “Shit.”

While fans gushed over the picture, celebrity women also publicly praised Claflin’s physique. Actress Elizabeth Banks commented “Humblebrag those abs,” while actress Millie Bobbie Brown simply posted a flushed-faced emoji. Actress Olivia Munn focused on the joke, posting a two laughing emojis in the photo’s comments.

By posting the selfie unapologetically, Claflin has seemingly come a long way in terms of body confidence. The actor has previously spoken out about the pressure to have a buff and lean body in Hollywood, and how it took a toll on his self-image.

In 2017, Claflin famously told The Sydney Morning Herald: “I remember doing one job where they literally made me pull my shirt up and were grabbing my fat and going, ‘You need to lose a bit of weight.’ This other time, they were slapping me. I felt like a piece of meat.”

He added, “I’m not saying it’s anywhere near as bad as what women go through but I, as an actor approaching each job, am insecure — especially when I have to take my top off in it — and so nervous. I get really worked up to the point where I spend hours and hours in the gym and not eating for weeks to achieve what I think they’re going for.”

While Claflin may be the picture of effortless confidence in the recent photo, his past comments make clear that self-confidence doesn’t come easy — not even for famous actors.
